Hinjewadi is home to the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, which MIDC developed in three phases and where companies such as Infosys, Wipro and TCS have large campuses. The housing around it, in Hinjewadi itself and neighbouring Marunji and Maan, is popular with people who want to live close to work.
Most of the area falls outside PMC and PCMC limits, in gram panchayat areas under the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA). A merger into PCMC has been proposed, but as of October 2026 it has not been formally notified. Infrastructure has not kept pace with growth, and traffic, roads and water are common complaints, which is why the metro matters so much here.
Roads
Connected to Wakad and the Mumbai–Bengaluru highway (NH 48) through Phase 1. In September 2026, six major roads in the IT corridor were identified for widening and new links, with work set to start from December 2026.
Metro
Line 3 starts at Maan (Phase 3) and runs through all three phases to Wakad, Balewadi, Baner and Shivajinagar. Line 3 is built and running trials but is not yet open to passengers as of October 2026; the Hinjewadi-to-Balewadi section is expected to open first.
Work
The IT park's three phases are the main employer, so many residents can walk, cycle or take a short ride to work.
Daily life
Shops, schools and restaurants have grown around the IT park, with more choice in neighbouring Wakad.
